 | | Bunk Leach is a true dancing legend. He grew up in Greensboro, NC and spent his summers at Carolina Beach doing what is called "The Shag". Bunk became one of the top dancers throughout the Carolinas winning many contests. Many people wanted to learn how to dance like him, but he would only teach them when they learned the beat of the music. Bunk, a dancing celebrity, was inducted into the "Shaggers Hall of Fame" and the "Living Legends". A yearly contest in his honor began at Thirsty's Beach Club back in 1993 to raise money for the Hall of Fame Foundation, an organization set-up to help shaggers in need. Bunk only got to enjoy the first four years of the contest before he lost his battle to cancer. The contest moved to Ducks at Ocean Drive after Thirsty's closed in January, 1999. Now the contest is back in Greensboro at
the new club, Thirsty's 2. Bunk Leach will continue to live in our hearts (and feet) forever. | |
